My First Shoot with Melissa

These are some of my favorite images from my first shoot with Melissa; a brilliant model I have recently had the pleasure of working with. This shoot was part of my research and development for my latest college project; Collaborative Working, and it was also so I could practice with using my college's speed light soft box and creating flash shadows which I think are really cool and interesting. This shoot still needs to be edited but I am really pleased with the images I took and I loved working with Melissa. The shoot was meant to be a contrast shoot; showing Melissa as a good summery person and a colder, darker person, which is something I would like to work on by showing the loss of youth and innocence and possibly to show the story of Hades and Persephone for my Greek Myths Project. I can't wait to edit the rest of these images and plan my next shoot with Melissa.

Meg + Luke

First off; I love this photo and I am considering adding it to my portfolio.

Secondly these are some of my favorite photos from my first couple shoot with Meg and Luke in Newcastle. Starting at Grey's Monument we spent a few hours walking down to and then along the Quayside, having a really fun and relaxing shoot and getting some brilliant photos. This was my first couple shoot and I found it really interesting and fun and I loved shooting with Meg and Luke, who couldn't stop smiling and laughing at each other despite having a stranger and a camera shoved in their faces and I really hope that I will get the chance to shoot with them again. My First Exhibition (Part 2)

Just thought I'd post a snap of my work exhibited at The Ernest in Newcastle last night. It was only a little exhibit in a local pub and it was only for the one night but it was great fun and I've got someone else interested in exhibiting in my work which is great.

Megan's Studio Shoot

Here are some of my favorite photos from my latest shoot with Megan in my college's studio. I normally think studio shoots are tedious, temperamental and boring and I usually struggle to produce any good pieces of work unless i am really on the ball and 100% focused. But I think I got some great photos from this little shoot with Megan, but I would prefer to shoot it again on location; like a female Tarzan kinda thing. I am also really looking forward to working with Megan again as she really wants to do some makeup shoots; not my area of expertise but I am willing to try and I think it's a good opportunity to take some more interesting images and do some of my own weird ideas.

Long-Exposures Location Scouting

I've been talking to this professional model and we both want to recreate "The Birth of Aphrodite" as a photograph, inspired by the original myth and the art it inspired in the Renaissance. So yesterday I went out, admittedly a bit to late, to scout a location a had in mind for this. I had planned on just getting some quick snaps but because it was so dark I shot some Long-Exposures and got some quite interesting photos that I never planned to get. I found it so interesting and relaxing that I'm planning on shooting it out again tonight.

Experience of Work Week- Book Covers Project- 1984

Despite being very busy, stressed and tired by college decided that it was a good idea to give us another week long project for our Experience of Work Week. Our project was to shoot an image that could be used as the cover for a book and could be uploaded and sold on a Stock Library. I picked Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell. I did a practice shoot in my college's studio, using silhouettes and selective light but soon realized that I wanted a dark, gritty and detailed, partially cropped headshot of an older model to pose as the main character; Winston Smith. I took this of my Dad in the kitchen using a 50mm lens and a SB-700 Speed-light attached with a Radio Slave. I did the shoot in half an hour, got some great images and went to bed early, then the next day I went into college and edited this in half an hour in the morning before my first class. So 1 hour on the job and created this and I am really proud of it. My motivation and work has dropped quite recently but producing such a strong image that I am really proud of has really helped me bounce back and feel far more confident about myself and my abilities.

Paige at the Seaside

Here are a few images from my latest shoot with the lovely Fashion Student and Blogger; Paige Richards. Paige is a lovely young woman and is really fun and relaxing to work with BUT she really can't stand the cold, which is a problem while trying to shoot in the North East of England. Our first shoot was a bit of a disaster as we started shooting too late and by the time we got going it was dark and rainy, but I thoroughly enjoyed working with her and particularly liked her pale complexion but dark features in the white light of some street lamps.

But this shoot, at South Shields was drastically better; the sky was a bit grey but it didn't rain although it was very windy, which didn't do Paige's hair many favors and made keeping her hat on quite a challenge. My original plan was to walk along the beach but as Paige was frozen solid by the time we got there, we abandoned this in favor of some chips and a walk around the park and the fairground. I particularly love the photos of Paige posing against the grating at the fair (which was also the setting for my Ad Branding Shoot with Tino).

I can't wait to work with Paige again; she's great to work with and I love the challenge of working on Fashion Shoots which are slightly outside of my comfort zone. I would also like to see her as a vampire or maybe Snow White, although I have to say shooting her as a China Doll would be amazing.

Maria in South Shields

This is Maria and last week I did a lovely shoot with her on the beaches and in the fair of South Shields then we got some delicious chips and headed home. Maria is funny and down-to-earth and I had a great time shooting with her, even if I got sand all over my car. I really want to do another shoot with Maria, as soon as I think of a good enough idea for her to do. I think she would be prefer for a Fashion Shoot or maybe Makeup or Beauty, as I think this is my favourite picture of her and I love her relaxed expressions and deep bright eyes. I think her face and eyes are her best features and I would like to make the most of them and draw attention to her best attributes.

P.s. I love this experiment and want to use this technique again to show contrasts such as Good and Evil, Happy and Sad and Light and Dark. Thanks to Maria for modelling for this experiment.

Chloe's Album- Brickwall Shoot

Chloe is a musician in Newcastle who is in the process of recording her first album, and I am thrilled to be helping her and have agreed to take some promotional photos of her for her new website and album. This was our first shoot together as I wanted to try and get to know her and try something simple and relaxing for our first shoot before we tried anything more ambitious. One of her songs is called Brickwall, so I thought it would be a good idea to shoot against a brick wall for her first shoot. Unfortunately, the weather disagreed with use and it started raining after 20 mins, but I got to meet Chloe and I think I got some great photos from our first shoot and I'm really looking forward to working with her on this.
