Amy (Kovie Kixx) in Newcastle

These are a few of my favorite photos from my latest portrait shoot with Amy, who you may recognize as Raven from my previous cosplay shoot with her. I must admit this shoot didn't go brilliantly; we started too late in the day, the weather was poor and I didn't focus and get on with anything in particular and ended up biting off more than I could chew. But I thought I got some quite good photos and thought I would post a few, so let me know what you think.

Long Exposure Landscapes

These are a few Long Exposures that I took around Newcastle a few weeks ago. Long Exposures are created when a photographer sets up there camera on a tripod with a long shutter speed. This means the camera is capturing light for the same position for a few seconds creating a blur of light and movement. This creates an interesting effect on the movement and reflections on the River Tyne, especially when someone is jetting around on a jet-ski, it also creates an interesting effect when photographing moving traffic on the Tyne Bridge. Check these out.

Multi-Composite Practice with Adam

Last week I went out with Adam (from APFinlay Photography) to St James Park and the City Walls, next to Chinatown in Newcastle to do a practice shoot for out Multi-Composite project and I got some interesting Multi-Composite images of Adam and he got some of me, which I am sure I will be seeing soon. So as I am still working on the final images for this project, I thought I would upload these test images of Adam, to annoy him.

Amy's First Shoot

Last week I did my first shoot with Amy, who you may recognize as the brilliant cosplayer from my Raven shoot (who I am hoping to work with again to recreate some comic covers and artwork). Amy is a lovely, funny and friendly person who is really fun, calm and relaxing to shoot with, despite the fact that the weather was very cold and grey and that it got dark very quickly and admittedly I wasted sometime when I should have just got on with the shoot. However, I got some lovely shoots of Amy including some long-exposures and multi-composites and hopefully I will be working with her in the studio quite soon.

Beaten up Make up

These are some "Sneak Peaks" from my Multi-Composite Final Shoot with Fiona and Macara, who posed in my house as victims of domestic abuse. For this unit I had to create an image that could be used for a charity advert so I choose to create an image aimed at raising awareness for domestic abuse and violence. My concept was centered around the statistic that 1 in 4 women in the UK suffer from domestic abuse of some kind. I am currently editing the Final Image which will be up soon but I thought I would post some Sneak Peaks of the models sporting injures provided by the brilliant Makeup Artist, Leanne Cowie. But don't worry they made a full recovery thanks to some baby wipes and makeup remover.

Multiple Composite Images

My latest college project is called "Multiple Composite Images". A Multi-Comp Image is a shooting and editing technique that is often used by photographers to show a single model posing multiple times in a single image. Basically, a photographer sets up their camera on a tripod and manually sets every setting, including the focus. He then positions the model several times within the frame of the camera and takes a photo of the model every time they are repositioned. Then at the end of the shoot the photographer edits the image(s) so all the images are overlaid; he then removes strategic parts of the image so when the editing is complete you get this single image created from layered images that shows the model in various positions and poses. I planning to use this technique to document and compare emotions and personality traits; by having the model pose to show various emotions and then layer the images together to form a sort of spectrum or scale.

However, for my college project I must produce a Multi-Composite image taken on location with at least 1 model composed at least 3 times. This image must also be taken as an advert or promotional image for a charity. I will attempt to shoot an image inspired by some campaigns I have found based on Domestic Violence. But for now I will leave you with my first practice image.

Paige Richard's Headshots Shoot

Last Friday I did a shoot with a student at my college, who is also a model and fashion blogger. We arranged to do a shoot around The Sage, Gateshead and along the Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside. However, the weather was terrible and we were both delayed so by the time we managed to meet at our rendezvous it was dark and rainy. So we sat down, had a drink, talked about ideas and (when we'd warmed up and dried off) we took some photos. Due to the weather and lack of light, I initially used a SD-700 FlashGun on my Nikon D3200 but as I dislike flash photography, I swapped this for a 50mm lens and tried to shoot around the available light sources. Although I had aimed to shoot some fashion images due to the light and weather I had to settle for some head-shots. Overall I got some good photos and some better ideas for some follow-up shoots including a China Doll inspired shoot, another Quayside shoot (in better conditions) and hopefully I will be doing weekly shoot with Paige for her fashion blog. The full shoot will be posted tonight on my page; https://www.facebook.com/NJDunnPhotography and please check out Paige's Fashion Blog; http://paigerichardsstyling.blogspot.co.uk, which I will hopefully be working on soon.
